Information About DIY Kits Of Duracoat Aerosol

By Kathrine Franks

Marksmen know the value of keeping their firearms clean and often enjoy a customized finish. They also want products that do no harm to synthetics, ferrous metals, wood, stainless steel and alloys. Most people prefer no need for heating and baking their firearms which make DuraCoat Aerosol a perfect choice. Here are some points to consider when contacting a Lawrence, KS supplier who also offers Peel 'N Spray templates.

Some people like a smooth finish and others like some other type of texture. Just about any surface is possible with these products ranging from camo to a pearl texture. It is even possible to create layers of texture and then finish them off with a protective coating of the clear product to reduce dings and scratches.

One of the nice things about this product is the hardener that comes with it. The aerosol can is a can within a can and allows putting the hardener in without making a huge mess. The usual ratio of 12 parts DuraCoat to 1 part hardener, and greatly speeds up the drying process. Change the ratio to 10:1 for a higher glossy finish that shines like brand new.

When using the stick on templates, they leave an adhesive residue that is easily removed using mineral spirits and a clean, dry cloth. Be sure to remove all of the adhesive before applying a coat of the DuraClear so that they do not leave bubbles on the finished project. Also use a good cleaner to remove oil, grease, and any other contaminants before applying new finishes.

Typical drying time is overnight. Placing the weapon in an oven for just 1 hour and baking it for about an hour at 110 degrees F speeds up the drying process. At this point, it is possible to use abrasive solvents, lubricants, and cleaners without destroying the finish. For full curing time allow three to six weeks.

Keep in mind that DuraCoat is available in over 200 colors, including Clear and those 200 colors when mixed will match any color in the spectrum. The Aerosol Kit contains a spray can that easily allows mixing the dryer with the color mixture for perfect results and easy to access and clean up afterward.

Remember that a clean surface is the best to ensure the desired results of any firearm customization. Once dismantled check all interior surfaces, and if necessary use a mirror to make sure all corners and crevices are clear of debris. DuraCoat Cleaner is excellent for this procedure because it leaves no film or residue.

As always, make sure the firearm is unloaded and completely dismantled for both safety and access to all areas of the surface, especially any tight corners or recessed areas where the human eye cannot see. Any coating product hardens after drying and presents a possible malfunction in discharging the weapon. Use a dental tool mirror if necessary to examine all internal areas.

There is no such thing as too much safety when dealing with firearms that use explosives. When cleaning and oiling guns use the proper tools to dislodge any debris especially inside where dirt often collects. Then use the very best grade products to clean, maintain and customize your entire collection.
